How does STEP Work
We call it the connector model.
STEP’s method for success is called the “Connector Model” because of the direct connection the Trades Employment Specialists (TES) have with employers and employees. The TES is continually cultivating relationships with potential employers to connect them with new employees. Once the connection between an employer and employee has been made, the TES continues to work as a liaison between both parties to ensure a successful match and to address any potential issues along the way.
What is a Trades Employment Specialist?
Trades Employment Specialists have experience with the skilled trades and understand your needs.
Trades Employment Specialists, located across all regions of the province, will:
- Assess the employment potential of workers
- Connect you with workers that match the skills and experience you need
- Provide continuing support and counseling to address the ongoing needs of workers and employers
- Assist you in creating a “Trades Training Agreement” with employees that can result in certification for employees while working on the job
- Assist any of your current employees who are underemployed access training to develop their skills and obtain certification
- Refer clients from various regions who are interested in re-locating
- Assist you in determining elibility for the British Columbia Training Tax Credit, which was recently increased to $4000 per apprentice
STEP is a no-fee service that connects employers in BC with skilled workers who have the experience or desire to work in the Skilled Trades they desire.
STEP’s success is measured by your success. We are interested in creating a skilled workforce for employers and a safe work environment for workers. We travel all regions of the province and welcome the opportunity to meet with you “on site” to discuss the STEP program and approach.
