What does STEP do for me
Employers are vital to the success of STEP.
What is the Benefit?
STEP will connect employers with job ready workers through its Trades Employment Specialists. Trades Employment Specialists are qualified trades people who understand employer’s needs. Trades Employment Specialist provide on going support and job counseling after workers are placed. They will work with employers and skilled workers removing the risks of hiring new workers by finding the right skills for the right job.
By hiring an apprentice your company may qualify for the British Columbia Training Tax Credit which was recently increased to $4,000 per apprentice. Your TES can be a resource to assist you with the process to obtain this credit.
Are you ready for the future?
In the next 10 years over 250,000 skilled workers will be retiring, taking with them years of experience and knowledge. What can you do to ensure your industries will have the skilled workers they will need to stay profitable. STEP can help existing workers increase their skills and certification or find the skilled worker needed into the future.
The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF) recently released a report on the benefits of hiring apprentices that indicates for every $1 invested, an employer can expect a return of $1.47. For more information on the benefits of hiring an apprentice, visit the CAF website.
If you are not sure if your trades are at risk, the Construction Sector Council releases up to the minute information on labour market information. Visit the CSC website for current statistics.
