How Does STEP Work
We call it the connector model.
STEP’s method for success is called the “Connector Model” because of the direct connection the Trades Employment Specialist (TES) has with employers and employees. The TES is continually cultivating relationships with potential employers to connect them with new employees. Once the connection between you and an employer has been made, the TES continues to work as a liaison between you and the employer to ensure a successful match and to address potential issues along the way.
What is a Trades Employment Specialist?
Trades Employment Specialists have experience with the skilled trades and know the challenges that can exist in starting or furthering your career. Your Trades Employment Specialist (TES) will work with you to assess your current skills and then connect you to employment or training. If there is no training available STEP works with employers in your area to create a “Trades Training Agreement” that will result in certification and employment while working on the job.
If you are underemployed, your TES can also work with you and your employer to access training to advance your skills and further your career. While some challenges you may be facing have nothing to do with certification or training; STEP may still be able help.
STEP’s success is measured by your success. We are interested in creating a skilled workforce for employers and a safe work environment for workers.
